SUMMARY
JOEL BECKWITH was born in 1949 in Boston, Massachusetts and was graduated cum laude in Art in 1971 from Bowdoin College where he studied drawing with Thomas Cornell. His professional career has been distinguished by the inclusion of his work in many national exhibitions including the Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibition "American Drawings III", The Society of American Graphic Artists, The Boston Printmaker's National Exhibition and the Miami International Print Biennial. Beckwith’s many awards include Best in Show at the 1996 exhibition "Sixty Square Inches", Purdue University Small Print Biennial and a fellowship award at the Stratton Arts Festival, Stratton, Vermont. Beckwith's work is part of numerous public collections including the Philadelphia Museum, the Birmingham (AL) Museum of Art, New York University Medical School, National Institutes of Health and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Beckwith maintains his studio at his home in Jamaica, Vermont, where he is the official "Artist in Residence" at Elaine Beckwith Gallery.

The etchings, drawings and paintings of artist Joel Beckwith have been exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout the eastern U.S. His many awards include an Artist Fellowship Award, Stratton Art Festival (VT); Bunker Museum Purchase Award from the Philadelphia Museum; Best in Show, “60 Square Inches” – Purdue University Small Print Biennial; Best in Show, New England Print Exhibition; and the Daniel Chester French Medal of Excellence – distinguished artist award – Concord Art Association (MA).
Beckwith’s etchings are hand-printed by the artist directly from the metal plates on which they are drawn. Watercolor and gold leaf are added later to further embellish his lively imagery.
